French Braid

French Braids

So, I am going to show (or um, write?) you how to french braid your hair and the different styles you can do it. Before I start, I wanted to let you know that when your braiding, go OVER, because that is what makes a french braid french. If you go under, your doing a dutch braid.

Step 1~
The first thing you need to do is thoroughly brush through your hair. Make sure there are no tangles and knots.

Step 2~
Now you need to take your thumb and touch right above your ear, and then bring it back where you take the top part back with you.

Step 3~
Now you need to do a regular braid 1 time to start it off. This helps make the braid more enduring.

Step 4~
As soon as its time to braid over again, you need to grab some extra hair and braid with that.

Step 5~
Now you do it with the next piece. Just continue this process for awhile until your at the bottom of your neck.

Step 6~
Once your at the bottom of your neck, do a regular braid until your finished.

STYLES~

There are too many styles of French braid to count. So, here are the basics.

The regular french braid~
This is when you do the how-to above, and just tie it off with a hair-band at the end.

Side french braid~
This is where you french braid to the side, tying it off with a hair band or clip. It usually rests on your shoulders.

Pigtail french braid~
You basically doing two separate french braids on opposite sides of your head, by your ears.

Others~
Like I said, there are too many to count, but here are some other ones which you might like. The hair band braid where you do it across your forehead, like a hair band. The "waterfall" french braid, thats when you do it diagonally across your hair while its down.

I hope I helped you with learning how to French braid, and the different styles. If you are more of a visual learner, and want to see how to french braid, then go here. I haven't seen the whole video, but if there are others you prefer, look up french braid tutorials on youtube and you can see.

  1. Cool post. I really am trying to make a decent French braid now that I learned to fishtail. I think this post would have been great with a video tutorial, photo tutorial, or at least just a photo of a pretty French braid. But the instructions are very thorough! (:

    1. Thank you! I am going to add a picture (like a polyvore) so it will be easier for readers to see the French Braid. Thanks for the tip!
